The VM developers announce VirtueMart 1.1.0 RC3 featuring increased performance, bug fixes and the use of external files as product download files. From the announcement:

The new version allows to use external files (through http protocol) as product download files. The VirtueMart Updater has been improved in this version, so Patch Packages can also be uploaded instead of just being downloaded from dev.virtuemart.net.

If most of the smaller bugs have been fixed and no ciritcal or blocker issues are left, we can release VirtueMart 1.1.0 stable. This will be in early April (currently April, 9). No new features will be implemented and the database structure will be left untouched, so you could start creating new shop sites with this version and wait to go live until the stable version has been released: Please don't use this Release Candidate in Production Sites.
